
Policy
The University of Hawaiʻi community has a history of peaceful protest and moral leadership, much of which would be restricted under the proposed “Time, Place, and Manner” policies. Similar policies at other universities have led to disciplinary actions that undermine academic freedom and free speech and weaken fundamental rights. In coordination with advocates, I helped draft this resolution that aims to defend students, faculty and staff who nay be attacked for exercising their rights to academic freedom and free speech.
I worked with Representative Grandinetti to draft this resolution which directly addresses Hawaiʻi’s severe housing shortage by proposing a practical, scalable solution to reduce delays and costs in residential construction. By streamlining the permitting process and lowering design barriers, the measure can accelerate the production of affordable housing while maintaining safety, quality, and cultural relevance, including climate-responsive features.

Advocacy

Campaign to oppose unjustified fixed fee increases on customer utility bills that garnered over 3,000 petition sign-ons. Resulted in local utility company halting increases for five years.

Invited comments opposing the Trump administration's move in 2020 to significantly undercut the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and roll back this necessary environmental protection.
