A recap of a Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) Board where Board members voted to delegate decision-making authority around the Kingston and Cumberland coal plants to CEO Jeff Lyash, while simultaneously giving him a raise. Outside the meeting, members from Tennessee Valley Energy Democracy Movement (TVEDM), gathered outside for a demonstration entitled “Locked Out, Locked Arms” and delivered nearly 4,000 public comments in opposition of new fossil fuel.

Connected the concept of bi-directional charging, or energy flowing from a building to a vehicle and vice-versa, to three SACE events that served as a conduit between communities and elected officials to learn the benefits of electrifying transportation, discuss and take action on federal and state policies, explore opportunities to expand clean energy and electric transportation, and find reassurance the community would support climate champions.

Discusses a TVA Board of Directors meeting where the budget and long-term resource plan were decided. The budget stopped annual rate increases, at least in the near term, but did not address high bills. The resource plan gutted energy efficiency, slows carbon reductions, and continues reliance on fossil fuels for the next 20 years.

Outlines an energy evaluation process for Memphis Light, Gas & Water and the potential opportunities and pathways the utility could take to ensure affordable, equitable bills, more clean energy, and a healthier city.
